FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Our extra virgin olive oil is crafted exclusively from Koroneiki olives grown on our family's groves near Kalamata, Greece—one of the world’s most renowned olive growing regions. Unlike many grocery store olive oils, which are blended from olives sourced in multiple countries, every bottle of Karamitros Reserve comes from a single family, a single region, and a single harvest. It is cold extracted within hours to preserve exceptional freshness, vibrant flavor, and the authentic character of premium Greek olive oil.
-
Extra virgin olive oil is one of the least processed culinary oils available. Unlike many refined vegetable oils, it is extracted mechanically from fresh olives without the use of heat or chemical solvents.
Naturally rich in monounsaturated fats and containing beneficial plant compounds called polyphenols, extra virgin olive oil has long been valued for both its exceptional flavor and its place in a balanced Mediterranean lifestyle.
-
Our olive oil is cold pressed (also called cold extraction) which means the olives are mechanically extracted at temperatures below 27°C (80.6°F), without excessive heat or chemical processing. Keeping the temperature low helps preserve the olive oil’s natural flavor, aroma, antioxidants, and overall quality.
-
Our extra virgin olive oil is minimally filtered to help preserve its natural flavor, aroma, and character. Because of this, you may notice a slight cloudiness or tiny olive particles, which are naturally occurring remnants from the olives after pressing. Cooler temperatures can also cause the oil to become cloudy, but it will return to its normal appearance at room temperature. These characteristics are completely natural and do not affect the quality, safety, or flavor of the oil.
-
A peppery sensation at the back of the throat is a natural characteristic of fresh, high-quality extra virgin olive oil. It comes from naturally occurring polyphenols—powerful antioxidant compounds found in olives. Many olive oil enthusiasts consider this pleasant peppery finish a hallmark of freshness and premium quality.
-
Store your olive oil in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and heat sources, such as a stovetop. Proper storage helps preserve its freshness, flavor, and quality.
